(This story isn't edited, its all rough, but sometimes I just feel like writing. Feel free to tell me its good or crap, The story is more like a free wandering tale, so there will probably be more if people say they like it)
He tried to think of how long he had been awake 100 hours, 500 hours? He couldnGÇÖt remember the last time he had slept. Pouring another cup of Quafe Extreme, he tried to focus his thoughts, but his body was jittery from the liquid adrenaline. It was supposed to have just caffeine in it, but he wasnGÇÖt sure it didnGÇÖt have all sorts of other weird and probably dangerous things as well. However, it did the job, keeping him awake for the long hours. He shook his head to try and clear it, but his thoughts were still distorted and he felt somewhat dizzy.
He moved from the caffeine machine, his hand sliding along the black corolite counter tops. Smooth and soft, though with too much of a plastic feel to it. The thing he noted most about the ship was that even though it was only 60 meters in length, the Caldari Buzzard class Frigate GÇ£iSpyGÇ¥ was extremely comfortable with just 4 other crew members aboard. With a standard crew complement of about ten to twenty people, the ship seemed almost like a ghost town. The secrecy of his mission however, was the reason for the skeleton crew. But with just four people the shift were longer, much longer. Without the stimulants he would have already been down, but with so much going on there wasnGÇÖt time for that.
Marcus, still holding his cup, thought about his time on the ship. Months had passed since the new GÇ£ImmortalityGÇ¥ was discovered. Though cloning has existed for a long time, the new method had made it extremely cheap and reliable. Immortality had been granted to the Capsuleer a decade ago, and now that same cloning technology was available in a tiny implant to make even regular humans Immortal. Everyone thought it would be the dawning of a new era, an age without death. However, the empires had gobbled up the technology and denied it to the masses, instead creating, The Immortal Soldier. A soldier who could be trained and honed to the peak of deadly perfection and then sent to fight our battles for us. It was the perfect plan, but then we found out, it wasnGÇÖt.
Yes, we had thousands of highly elite soldiers. No more need for training, no more need to replace loses in units or giving them time to meld. The units were formed and meshed and where once there were only a few hundred elite special operators, now there were tens of thousands. But where gold was struck, so came the cost. We found the cost. The technology got out, the cartels had found out about the immortal soldiers and made the technology their own. Now there was a new phrase to dread. Immortal Terrorism. Now there was true fear in the hearts of mankind, that one of these radicals could enter their city carrying a fusion bomb in a suitcase and detonate it, then the terrorist would just wake up to do it again, but the damage would remain. There had already been thousands of attacks across the galaxy.
Such was his mission now, to keep tabs on the Federation and its response to GÇ£Scarlet BladeGÇ¥. A Immortal who went rogue and started a campaign of terror across Gallente space. Though the Caldari State had little love for the Gallente, he had been tasked with making sure Scarlet Blade kept away from State owned space. Not that he could actually stop her. In the last 6 months, hundreds of bombings had been attributed to Scarlet Blade. From suicide bombings in crowded populace centers to high profile assassinations where she took out the target and just killed herself. The news had been grim.
GÇ£Computer activate log voice recorder.GÇ¥ And with a pause he began, GÇ£Lieutenant Marcus DynumGÇÖs log record date (04.16 - 115 YC). I have yet again been tasked with sensor sweeps of our current position which has remained unchanged for over a week. IGÇÖve been awake for longer than I care to disclose, and my blood secretly hopes for something of interest to occur. I cannot help but still feel as if the Navy has drafted and sent me away from Lai Dai with the sole intention of not returning me; though as of yet it is all speculation the truth is sometimes more subtle than grossly apparent at times.GÇ¥
GÇ£IGÇÖve prepared my mission briefs for the Colonel. I just donGÇÖt understand what he is doing here. If I had my command back I would not think about this vessel for another moment. But, regardless the Colonel is the closest thing to a true peer I have aboard this vessel, and his skill as a pilot are intriguing. IGÇÖm sure that yet again, I will just be given another mundane task after this meeting but I will continue to do what I must. Mostly for the chance to get home, or get my damn commission back!GÇ¥ Marcus sighs, and then says. GÇ£Now that I have efficiently rambled, I will go about my duties. End log.GÇ¥
Taking a moment to adjust his uniform, he stopped to check out his reflection from the highly polished mirror shine of the shipGÇÖs kitchen drawers. His black beard was neatly trimmed, his uniform and shoes pressed and polished. He donned his black leather field coat, the only thing that was left from his commission as a Colonel before his untimely demotion. He had told them that they would have to pry it from his cold dead hands, which considering his reputation, no one challenged him so he wore it proudly albeit without the gold stars. He slid his officers cap onto his head he checked his pistol. Though many within the Navy didnGÇÖt carry a weapon, Marcus had learned a long time ago, that in New Eden, one always kept a weapon within armGÇÖs reach |

Confident that his appearance was appropriate to the NavyGÇÖs standards and his own he grabbed his briefing data disk and headed for the shipGÇÖs small conference room. Stepping out of the room onto the shipGÇÖs metal gangway, It was claustrophobicly narrow and Illuminated only faintly by a pale blue light. Holding onto the metal railing, Marcus heard voices from the shipsGÇÖ astrometrics lab as he passed and stopped to listen.
GÇ£iSpy, with my little drone eye, and the color is goldGÇ¥ came the feminine voice of Jessica Tyco. She had been a civilian contractor who had accepted a position into CBD Corporation, she had later also been drafted by HethGÇÖs military build-up initiatives due to her extensive knowledge of cryptology. Gallente in origin, she had to work twice as hard to get half the results for her work in the Caldari intelligence community. However her sunny disposition and belief that she was making New Eden a safer place, had kept her spirits high.
GÇ£Easy, Omber, come on Jess, give me a harder one.GÇ¥ came the deeper and much more masculine voice of Istvaan Arik, a reformed ex-convict given a second chance in the Navy, aboard serving as the shipGÇÖs engineer, thanks to extensive rehabilitation and training he got in said prison. Though many believed he shouldnGÇÖt even be in the Navy with his history and lack of experience, he had spent his alone time studying energy manipulation and there were few in the navy who could eek more power from the shipGÇÖs drives.
Marcus could hear JessicaGÇÖs sigh and laugh and reply. GÇ£WeGÇÖve been here for over a week, what else is there to look at, that you havenGÇÖt already guessed?GÇ¥ Without missing a beat, Marcus stepped into the room and with a disapproving tone said, GÇ£How about what those encrypted Black Eagle transmission say? What are you two doing, we have a meeting, letGÇÖs go.GÇ¥ Without listening for an answer, Marcus turned on his heels and stepped back onto the gangway. From behind him, he heard Jessica groan and could imagine her rolling her eyes and he moved towards the briefing room. For the last six months she had been working furiously on breaking the secure communications of the Black Eagles in addition to her other assignments, but had had little luck with either.
Entering the bridge/conference room, Marcus noticed how dim the room was and wondered how his C.O, Colonel Azaaka, could bear the constant darkness. The only lights in the room were the pale blue images on the screens of the control and information consoles. Looking up, Marcus could see Azaaka already seated in his command chair at the helm of the ship. Though normally these expensive covert-ops frigates were equipped with Pods, Azaaka had never gone through the Pod process and yet wanted to remain in control of his own ship, flying it instead through a standard neural interface and manual controls.
Sitting down at the shipsGÇÖ weapons control console, Marcus slotted his information disk into the consolesGÇÖ terminal and then connected the consoleGÇÖs data jack into its implant slot behind his left ear. Quickly reviewing the information packet he reviewed his notes for the briefing. The rogue Immortal, Scarlet Blade, had led a campaign of destruction across the entire sector. In searching for her, he had scanned the Virtual Technet and reviewed millions of articles from both civilian and intercepted military broadcast. He felt he probably knew Blade better then he knew himself at this point. He wasnGÇÖt sure if that was a good thing, to know a cold blooded mass murderer so well. Reviewing her attacks against multiple Mimnatar refugee camps, he could see the pattern of causing a great fear to spread throughout the Empire and increased fracturing between the Gallente and Mimnatar. However the Gallente continued to pledge their support of the Mimnatar cause and created a Joint Federation Task Force, commanded by Commander Alton Gabel of the Black Eagles, which had chased Blade for months to little effect, until about week ago.
Still reviewing his report, Marcus watched as Istvaan and Jessica entered the room and sat at their own consoles, Jessica at the surveillance and drone operation center and Istvaan at the generator and engine systems console. He wondered, and not for the first time, if the two were carrying on a romance. They were always very chummy with each other, but he decided yet again that he wouldnGÇÖt get involved, six months behind GÇ£enemyGÇ¥ lines, one needed to relieve stress, and physical activity was good for the body. He found the only thing that kept him going was the thought of getting out of the Navy, getting back to Lai Dai and then going through the Capsuleer program. As he read more about the exploits of Scarlet Blade, he found himself thinking about the idea of Immortality more as the months passed, to have no more fear.
Still waiting for Colonel Azaaka to start the meeting he returned his attention to his report continued reading. Blade had continued her cat and mouse game for months on end, showing up for a bombing or assassination and then dying or escaping to do it again a few days later on another world in another system. The Gallente Task Force had had no hope of stopping her, and were even less effective than the iSpy at following her movements. But that had changed a week ago. The reports and postings he found were confusing, but there were rumors that when Scarlet Blade was spotted in the Luse system on Luse V a week ago, that the task force had shown up with an additional ship this time, a Jove ship.

Though he couldnGÇÖt find anything official backing up the report, many conspiracy theorist re-reported the sighting of the ship along with sightings of several dozen Black Eagle vessels. The same day the vessels arrived, some form of new pulse weapon was fired on Luse V. Hundreds of people, within two square blocks, were Mind Locked, not unlike when a brain fails to adopt to the Capsuleer conversion, trapping the mind inside of itself.
There were no official reports of the incident, and the Task Force merely left the planet with no announcement at all, but deep in the Technet, theorist on the planet alluded to them having successfully captured Blade and also capturing the body of the Jovian operative who supposedly fell during the testing of this new weapon.
Marcus had no idea what the weapon was, there were thousands of theories floating about, but nothing concrete. The news was about a week old and there were no new sightings of Scarlet Blade, had they done it? Had they captured her? When Azaaka reported the findings back to Caldari high command, the commander himself had gotten on the line, Heth. Marcus didnGÇÖt know what passed between Azaaka and Heth, but he knew their leader was more than a little upset about the possibility of the existence of a weapon that could disable clone soldiers in a large area and that the weapon was now in the hands of the Gallente.
Azaaka, turning in his chair, signaled with his hand for the meeting to begin and Marcus, raising his eyes and looking through the bridge window to the stars beyond, wondered and not for the first time, about Immortality.

Templis Card wrote:Has potential, but needs a plot of editing, not just copy editing either. Structure is a little wonky and takes time to get anywhere while at the same time saying several things at once in the same paragraph that don't lead into each other anyway. E.g. he's talking about the coffee machine then it suddenly describes the ship. No progression.
Still, keep writing!
Thanks, Yea. I mostly write by flow of consciousness, as it comes I just move along with it to keep from getting writers block. One reason why I didn't edit anything, once I stop to edit I usually stop the story by getting bogged down in details. |

The last to enter the bridge was Major Aldrick Caldri. Standing at 6GÇÖ4GÇ¥ with a powerfully built physique, Aldrick cut a menacing figure. A member of the Immortal project himself, Aldrick was a member of the Caldari special forces before being tasked to provide martial support for the mission. Taking a seat at the shipGÇÖs shield console, Aldrick sighed and jacked himself into the ships computer network as well. Marcus could understand the commandoGÇÖs frustration, the man spending nearly every waking hour in VR simulations, honing his combat skills. Aldrick had ordered the crew to attend VR combat training at least once a week, yet even after months of training, they were still woefully inadequate compared to Aldrick. When they did competency examinations, Jessica, Istvaan and Marcus all working together had yet to win a mock engagement against the veteran.
Marcus turned an annoyed glance back to Jessica and Istvaan, though they had arrived before Aldrick, they had yet to jack into the system. He noticed that Jessi was wearing her silk navy issue sleep ware rather than her uniform and he frowned. He was annoyed she never bothered to even don her uniform. However, Azaaka had never reprimanded her and Marcus realized she had spent the last 150 hours scanning down the entirety of the Luse system. Noticing Marcus looking at her, Jessi nodded and took a sip of steaming Quafe Coffee before starting to jack in herself.
With only a mental thought, Marcus activated the meeting program and joined the conference. His vision blurred as the real was replaced by the fictitious, he closed his eyes to keep from getting sick during the exchange. Moments passed and he opened his eyes again to find himself sitting in a Caldari executive office room. Fine dark wood wall paneling surrounded the long conference room, except for one wall which was floor to ceiling windows. Marcus found himself sitting in a tall, black, and very comfortable chair surrounding a polished red wood table that seemed to glow with a glossy sheen. On the table was an old fashioned projection unit which shined a symbol for the Caldari Navy on the far wall.
Behind him, Aldrick stood staring out the window, looking down at a beach far below and in the distance. Aldrik had told Marcus once that the building was actually a real building, that it was a corporate office for the Sukuuvestaa Corporation, where he suspected Azaaka was a member. The office was located on Caldari Prime and was destroyed during the recent rebellion when the Gallente retook the planet. Marcus was always amazed about VR, that in reality this site was little more than blasted ruins, but that in VR, everything was peaceful and perfect. He could see tall skyscrapers, and all around the buildings zoomed numerous cloud cars and small ships.
At great expense Sukuuvestaa had bought all the land between their building and the ocean in the distance. They had subleased all the land and forced those who would build on it to design their buildings to certain heights, creating an artificial bowl which both highlighted the Sukuuvestaa building itself as the pinnacle, but also framed a perfect ocean and beachfront view for their corporate officers,. Marcus could see people down on the beach and the waves of the ocean through the magnified glass. Out in the harbor were yachts and small boats. Further out in the ocean rose a mammoth star port in the distance, and there were several Caldari Cruisers which had descended from the atmosphere and docked with the station, each hovering over the water. The heavy gravitational displacement creating large waves on the beach far away for perfect surfing conditions.
Sitting near the window, Marcus could feel the heat of the sun on his face. He sighed with pleasure and then turned his attention back to the others. Each of them now in new and freshly pressed uniforms, each person displaying their medals and honors on their breast, the Technet hid the reality of their dress with the illusion of perfection. The only one with no honors was Azaaka himself, and Marcus wondered just who the Colonel was, he had been a Colonel himself before his demotion and had never heard of the man. Aldrick and Marcus had tried to guess the origins of the mysterious colonel, but neither of them could come up with much.
Taking a moment to rub a hand over his bald head, Azaaka said GÇ£GÇ£Thank you for joining me for todayGÇÖs meeting. I want a report on where everyone is with the hunt for Scarlet Blade and what information they have discovered since we last met yesterday. ItGÇÖs been a week since Scarlet BladeGÇÖs disappearance and she could honestly be anywhere in the cluster. The trail has gone cold and High Command wants answers and they want them right nowGÇ¥ With that he turned to Marcus and said GÇ£Dynum, what is your report on the Technet?GÇ¥
Marcus stood from his chair and mentally commanded his data drive to load, he watched as the projector flashed from the Caldari Navy symbol to show each of his reports about the weapon, Scarlet Blade and then a map of the Luse system. Repeating what he had rehearsed he then moved onto new reports. GÇ£GÇ£As you can see here on our interface map, the Task Force command ship, the Megathron class Battleship GÇ£HaganesticGÇ¥ moved into the sector a little over a week ago in response to a sighting of Scarlet Blade, it was about this time we believe a Jovian representative rendezvoused with their fleet, though we have no proof of it. Jovian cloak is far more advanced then our sensors, but we believe that our cloak remained undetected by both parties because of our distance from the normal shipping lanes.GÇ¥

GÇ£Our intelligence has reported that the Black Eagles are using specially modified prototype ships with a much higher output rate, however the engines also release a special detectable compound which we have picked up from several dozen small frigates that have come and gone in the system this week.GÇ¥ Marcus cycled the map to show the thousands of vessels coming and going during the week, he stopped to show some of the advanced frigates as they appeared. GÇ£When the weapon was fired we see the frigates begin to break off and form a subtle corridor. We detected a Iteron Mark 5 and a Occator both move through these protective corridors, one to the Ekuebiron system and one to Eletta. It was then that the Task Force left in a totally different direction, which I believe was just a diversion for the transport ships moving Scarlet Blade and the recovered weapon.GÇ¥
Azaaka cut into the briefing and asked. GÇ£So you are sure that the Federation has captured Blade?GÇ¥
Marcus nodded, GÇ£She has never gone dark for this long before, the theory me and Aldrick are working on is that the new weapon uses some form of pulse which interrupts the brainGÇÖs functions and causes the mind to shut off from the body, much like Mind Lock from a failed capsule merge. Since the body is still very much alive, the immortal implant inside BladeGÇÖs head didnGÇÖt activate, because her brain still showed very much as alive and active. ItGÇÖs ingenious actually, but we havenGÇÖt been able to figure out how they generated such a pulse. Since reports have indicated the entire squadron of soldiers they sent down, along with the Jovian operative were also all Mind Locked, we have to assume they werenGÇÖt sure what was going to happen either. So this is a very experimental weapon, probably developed to combat Blade herself.GÇ¥
The screen changes and Marcus continues. GÇ£WeGÇÖve received intelligence from the Black Hammer, our Bomber support in the region, that indicates the Black EaglesGÇÖ Thanatos class carrier Salvation arrived in Ekuebiron yesterday. It is my estimation that Blade was transferred to the carrier to possibly be interrogated. As they are taking such precautions with her body, we can assume they believe the Mind Lock to be temporary or that they have setup jamming fields to control which body she clones into next when killed.GÇ¥
Azaaka cut in again and saying. GÇ£What about the weapon Lieutenant?GÇ¥
Marcus sighed. GÇ£We hacked and tracked the system track navigation records and the Occator transport I mentioned, went under subtle escort to the Aufay system. We are aware that the Federal Intelligence Office has testing facilities there. We believe they have taken the weapon to their R&D Facility to begin trying to replicate and or reverse engineer the weapon.GÇ¥
Azaaka frowned at the pronouncement GÇ£That must not happen, that weapon is a grave threat to the State, we must capture it at all cost. IGÇÖll contact the Black Hammer, we are taking that weapon from them. Aldrick, are there any other commandos we can call upon to breach the facility?GÇ¥
Aldrick noded GÇ£That system is in the Disier constellation, thatGÇÖs high security space and a lot of it in-between our territory and theirs, so we will need capsuleer contractors to get the teams in there. However, this is a fortified space installation, we will need to deploy some serious firepower.GÇ¥
Azaaka looked up and pointed at the map GÇ£It is imperative we retrieve or less beneficially destroy the weapon. As a Immortal Soldier yourself, you know the consequences should the Federation have a weapon like this, imagine an orbital bombardment using this weapon on our soldiers. I can get you a fleet if you need itGÇ¥
Aldrick shuddered at the thought of a lifetime trapped inside his own mind. GÇ£We canGÇÖt use a fleet, it would just cause them to vent all the exterior sections of the station into space to keep out intruders and then erect force shields and wait for the calvary. No, it we are going to get in there we will need to be silent at first, until its to late for them to flush us out. We will need the firepower to get back out with the weapon. GÇ£
Marcus raised his hand GÇ£IGÇÖm a pilot, one of the best at Lai Dai, I want inGÇ¥ but Aldrick shook his head and replied. GÇ£You are mortal, this is only for those who went through the Immortal ProjectGÇ¥ But Marcus insisted. GÇ£They have a weapon which can render that null anyways, I want inGÇ¥ Aldrick sighed GÇ£Alright, your funeralGÇ¥

Kalani called out. GÇ£Shield Wall!GÇ¥ and as one the other Immortals stopped, each of them taking out an object from their backpack and then slamming it into the ground!. Marcus could only stare open mouthed and try to comprehend what was going on as suddenly thousands of points of green light flared into life ahead of Him. In response his world turned blue as the planted devices took life of their own erecting a blue energy field ahead of them. The green ocean pour towards them and their imprumtu blue field was there. The impact was a thousand cracks of thunder. He heard more screaming as the shield netting failed in places and the deadly green light poured through. Others fell to the ground from the sonic impact.
